Treasure Island (1990)

Charlton Heston...........Long John Silver
Christian Bale............Jim Hawkins
Oliver Reed...............Capt. Billy Bones
Christopher Lee...........Blind Pew
Richard Johnson...........Squire Trelawney
Julian Glover.............Dr. Livesey
James Cosmo...............Redruth
Pete Postlethwaite........George Merry

This movie is long out of print, and was only available on VHS and Laserdisc. This is a transfer from the Laserdisc. Great care was taken to ensure high quality video and audio. The video is encoded at 7500kbps and the audio is 48k PCM stereo, which is why the film is split over 2 discs.

The audio is Stereo Surround, which will output to a 5-speaker setup if your DVD player is capable of decoding it. The rear channels contain much of the music, and the center channel contains the dialogue.

Petition for the official DVD release here: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=14882

Until the official DVD is released, this will be the best version you will have!

what about subs
No subs, sorry!
Very nice job!
...goodies like this usually show up on dvd sooner or later, but you never know!
THX yo!
NTSC or PAL?
...Also is there a way to join the 2 discs into 1 DVD?
It's in NTSC. Also, there's DVD copy software that can compress to one DVD. I believe Nero or most other DVD copy software can do it for you.
Thanks for letting me know.
Oh ya by the way...thanks a ton for this I thought I'd never see the day where I'd find a DVD copy of this! The best version of TI I've always thought, very much underrated!
You did a great job, but 8G this is huge.

Is it possible to convert it to a 1G avi file? Yet there is another torrent with an avi version but from an old VHS.
A good little avi version from this one should be great.
I've been trying to make a smaller DivX rip but I've been running into some problems. I think there's enough interest in a smaller version from this Laserdisc rip, so I'll keep trying. I'll let you know when I have the torrent up :)
That's cool, thx ;-)
THANKS A LOT, can't wait for it to get down and rewatch this!
Been patiently waiting for a DVD release of this adaption of Treasure Island but it's still not out. Amazing, when you consider:
- Charlton Heston recently died, would have been spot on to launch all his works to the market.
- Christian Bale is (becoming) a top star name today!
- This film is one of the most beautiful versions of Treasure Island (cinematography is amazing!)
Oh yeah, and to those who wants to merge and shrink these two discs into one DVD5: Use DVD Shrink and run a deep analysis before recoding.
SEED PLZ!! This movie is a masterpiece that I lost many years ago - I have been looking all over to find a replacement for my old VHS and now it's here! :) THX - but with 7kb/s and 8.5 gigs worth of file... It will take forever... SO PLEASE SEED :)
I'll start seeding again to help out - had no idea the torrent would be so popular and going on so long, but I'm glad people are enjoying it :)
THX MAN! :) Now Im up at about 140kb/s awerage which is fine - I'll have it in about 18 hours from now and will be seeding the next 7 days 24/7 (if not more)
Ah now it's down! Beautiful! Seeding the next 7 days at least. Is there any way to get rid of the horizontal lines that distorts the picture? Im playing it through WMA Classic.

THX again for the torrent
The horizontal lines is called "interlacing", and I left it like that because the source is interlaced. In Media Player Classic, I think you have to choose a renderer that supports deinterlacing, like VMR9 (go to View>Options>Playback>Output>"VMR9" under DirectShow video). Or if you download VLC Player, you can also deinterlace it (Video>Deinterlace>Blend). It should look fine on a regular TV screen though. Enjoy :)
I think what you provide is great! I Love this film and am eager to make my own DVD from it. I have downloaded Disc 1 so far, however what are the thumbs for?
Am I the only one thinking of the paradox of donwloading this film, from the Pirate Bay?
Thanks a lot! One of my favourite movies.
The sound quality seems dodgy to me though, I don't know? Could be my computers fault, I guess? Otherwise I'm trying to get a circa 1.25 GB .mkv xvid flac rip out of it, and might post it when I do, otherwise I'm just adding my voice to the choir for a smaller laserdisc rip.
DID YA EVER HEAR of "ripping" a movie..?

It's a new technology that lets you compress gigantic shit like this into, say, 1.4 GB (instead of 8.5 Gigabytes)--with virtually no loss in quality! (okay, so you lose between 1 and 5%, but the tradeoff is obviously well worth it).

You should try it sometime, franksvalli.
